Terms of Use

Welcome to BookQuest! These Terms of Use (“Terms”) explain how you may access and use the BookQuest app, website, and services (collectively, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Who We Are

BookQuest is created and operated by an individual developer based in Canada. BookQuest is not a corporation; it’s an independent project designed to make reading more social, fun, and rewarding.

2. What You Can Do with BookQuest

  • Create an account via Google, Apple, or email
  • Log reading sessions and track time/pages and stats
  • Earn coins for reading and spend them on avatar cosmetics (virtual items)
  • Connect with friends and view their reading progress
  • Use an optional Pro subscription to unlock extra features
  • Ask the AI assistant book-related questions (powered by ChatGPT)
  • Browse book data via the Google Books API

BookQuest is for motivation and fun. There is no user-generated content (like public posts/comments) inside the app.

3. Eligibility

BookQuest is rated 4+. If you are a minor, you should use the Service with a parent or guardian’s permission and guidance where required by local laws.

4. Accounts & Security

You are responsible for your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Keep your sign-in information secure. You can delete your account anytime from the Profile tab by tapping Delete Account. For how data deletion works, please see our Privacy Policy.

5. Coins, Cosmetics, and Rewards

  • Coins are virtual and have no real-world monetary value.
  • Coins are earned by logging reading; they cannot be purchased with real money.
  • Coins can be used to unlock avatar cosmetics within the app only.
  • Cheating (e.g., logging fake reading) is possible but defeats the point of the app; we don’t offer cash-outs or exchanges.

6. BookQuest Pro Subscription

BookQuest Pro is an optional paid subscription that unlocks additional features. Payments and renewals are handled by the platform (e.g., App Store / Google Play) and are subject to their billing terms and refund policies. If you cancel, you’ll retain Pro access until the end of the current billing period.

7. Third-Party Services & AI

BookQuest integrates with third-party services to provide functionality, including:

  • Google Books API (book data and covers)
  • ChatGPT (AI assistant for book-related questions)
  • Google and Apple Sign-In (authentication)

These services have their own terms and privacy policies. Availability and content from third parties are not guaranteed.

8. Acceptable Use

  • Do not use the Service for illegal, harmful, or abusive activities.
  • Do not attempt to hack, reverse engineer, or disrupt the Service.
  • Do not impersonate others or misrepresent your identity.
  • Respect other users and the integrity of the Service.

We may suspend or terminate access if these rules are violated.

9. Intellectual Property

The Service (including software, design, graphics, and content) is owned by the creator of BookQuest. You’re granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service as provided. You may not copy, modify, distribute, lease, sell, or create derivative works from the Service.

10. Disclaimer

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that data will never be lost.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, BookQuest and its creator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for any loss of data, profits, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Service—even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we’ll provide notice in the app or on our website. The “Last updated” date will reflect the latest version. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
